Bioengineering Taltech
The Food Tech and Bioengineering lab at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) is committed to developing sustainable solutions in the bioeconomy sector. Launched in January 2021 and led by Professor Petri-Jaan Lahtvee, the lab specializes in bioinformatics, metabolic engineering, and bioprocess optimization, including the innovative use of 3D printing for creating living materials. We have established the Design-Build-Test-Learn cycle of cell factory design and bioprocess optimization. Our research focuses on creating microbial cell factories to convert various waste materials into valuable products, thereby addressing global challenges in biosustainability. This involves the sustainable production of food, feed, bio-chemicals, and materials. The lab emphasizes collaboration, professional excellence, and the education of future scientists and engineers to drive forward scientific breakthroughs and the application of these in industrial biotechnology
