Black Dolls Matter® is a cultural arts and education organization advancing representation, healing, and melanated joy through intentional play, storytelling, and community-centered work. Rooted in the performing arts, puppetry, and handmade dollmaking traditions, our work centers Black identity, dignity, and care. Through dolls, stories, and creative experiences, we explore how representation shapes self-image, emotional development, and intergenerational connection—particularly for children historically excluded from mainstream play and media. Founded by Daytime Emmy Award–winning artist and puppet builder Mark Ruffin, Black Dolls Matter® operates at the intersection of cultural storytelling, arts education, and social impact.
