The name Black Eagle Associates (BEA) comes from the Johnson family of Holy Hill, SC. The founders' father retired from the US Army as a full colonel (O-6) after 29 years of active service. The colonel's insignia is an Eagle and Col.(Ret.) Douglas L. Johnson, Sr, of African-American descent, was thus the "Black" Eagle. The founders' mother was Beatrice Taylor Johnson, affectionately known as Bea, thus the acronym BEA pays homage to her. The company name is a way of honoring the memories and significant contributions of Col.(Ret.) and Mrs. Johnson. The background portrait is of Col.(Ret.)
