Blackbird Revolt

Blackbird Revolt is a Minneapolis Certified Black, Woman, and Queer-Owned abolitionist design studio centered on racial justice and black liberation. We provide creative services such as branding, illustration, print and digital design, animation and motion graphics, research, and anti-racist workshops. We develop and design advertising, websites, campaigns, exhibitions, web design, video production, physical fabrication, and other services for commercial, non-profit/not-for-profit, and government organizations. Influenced by artists and activists, Blackbird Revolt was founded because we felt compelled to engage our community through art and design. Our team uses design to educate, challenge, and celebrate. Blackbird Revolt has been in operation since 2017. Collectively, we have over 30 years of design experience. We have designed everything from print material and brands to events and exhibitions. As creatives, we value art and design as a means to tell stories, communicate hard truths, and positively change our communities. Our body of work is driven by the belief that we can use design for good. Through Blackbird Revolt, we use our creative abilities to challenge the status quo. Our specialty lies in research-supported branding, illustration, and videography—creating an inclusive body of work that communicates the same message across a variety of platforms. We’ve worked with various organizations to help synthesize their message and tell their story through research, data visualization, and the development of imagery. With factors gained through community-engaged research, we work with community partners to define and refine their organizational and collective values, providing them with new insights and ways of thinking.
