Blue Pier solves this market failure by making pension plan membership available to everyone, including self-employed professionals and employees of the small- and medium-sized businesses which employ most of Canada’s workforce. Blue Pier is unique in an asset market of $3.5 trillion that’s growing at almost 4% annually. While that number sounds like a lot, it’s not nearly enough: the World Economic Forum estimates that Canada’s shortfall in retirement savings is $3 trillion today and will rise to $13 trillion by 2050.
