People with disabilities are the largest and fastest-growing minority in the U.S. They have to rely on friends, family members, and business colleagues to accompany them to events and outings. They also use businesses and facilities that are not accessible to them on a daily basis. At least one door should be accessible at these locations. Working in the door industry, I’ve come across many situations in low-income housing and schools, where they either don’t have automatic handicap doors, or most importantly don’t have the money to keep up or repair the operators they do have. Getting in and out of a building door with just groceries could be tough. Imagine doing it in a chair or a walker. I’ve watched people struggle for many years with no help from their surroundings. My goal is to work with different cities throughout the US adding or upgrading automatic door operators where they can’t afford it in low-income areas and buildings.
