Bluefin Energy

Bluefin Energy LLC ("Bluefin") is a Louisiana-based development company dedicated to offshore decarbonization utilizing cost-effective, proven technology solutions. Bluefin's initial business target will be partial decarbonization of existing oil and gas ("O&G") deep water production platforms in the U.S. Gulf of America ("GOA") with floating offshore wind turbines. The deployed technologies will involve the use of multiple floating offshore wind turbines operating within the defined parameters of existing, federally issued, mineral leases modified to allow for remote power generation on active lease blocks. Bluefin's international team has decades of experience in the construction, transport, installation, and operations & maintenance of offshore O&G production platforms together with fixed and floating offshore wind projects. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency lists 121 separate oil and gas leases with existing production facilities in the Gulf of America. Each facility has power generation equipment together with adequate export capacity for any natural gas displaced because of future floating offshore wind turbine installations. Electrification of oil and gas production platforms in the Gulf of America, Atlantic Canada, and South America by utilizing offshore wind energy can extend the life of existing oil & gas assets, reduce greenhouse gas emissions (methane and carbon dioxide), and be a cost-effective entry point to launch the floating offshore wind energy industry in the Americas. The US Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 includes a provision that mandates the federal government offer new offshore leases in federal waters for oil and gas drilling prior to initiating new leases for offshore solar and offshore wind energy. Signed into law on July 4, 2025, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act ("OBBA") requires the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management to hold 30 oil and gas lease sales in the U.S. Gulf of America, or two per year, through 2040.
