Bonnie and Braw is an award-winning production company based in Edinburgh, founded by filmmaker John McEwan-Whyte. We tell bold, distinctive Scottish stories with global impact—through film, animation, and talent development. Our work spans three key strands: Bonnie and Braw Productions – Specialising in documentaries and scripted projects, we’ve developed acclaimed films for HMV, VisitScotland, and Fjällräven, and are currently producing a feature doc with KT Tunstall. From short music docs to feature-length content, we focus on emotionally resonant storytelling and big creative swings. Cartùns – Our animation division creates original IP rooted in Scottish culture and myth, in collaboration with world-class partners including Aardman, BBC Scotland, Screen Scotland, and Huminah Huminah. We’re developing animated specials, series, and preschool content through official international co-productions, blending cinematic animation with bold, character-driven ideas. Braw Voices – Our outreach and development arm, supporting underrepresented voices in film and animation. Through initiatives like Table Reads, Hidden Voices, and Making It: Women in Film, we’re building clearer pathways into the industry—especially for those without connections or financial backing. With international partners, a focus on long-term collaboration, and a mission to amplify unheard voices, Bonnie and Braw is committed to reshaping what Scottish storytelling can look like—on screen and behind the scenes.
