Since 2018, Bookoccino has been under the stewardship of former New York Times correspondent Raymond Bonner and BookPeople’s 2025 Bookseller of the year, Sally Tabner. Before becoming a bookstore owner, Ray was a foreign correspondent and investigative reporter for The New York Times, as well as a contributor to The New Yorker and The New York Review of Books. He has an Emmy, written four award-winning non-fiction books, and, he notes, run a 2.36 marathon. A true community hub, Bookoccino has flourished under Sally’s vision, leadership and deep love of literature. A voracious reader and brilliant book matchmaker, Sally is equally at home recommending debut novelists as she is reading stories on the floor to toddlers. Designed by award-winning architect Drew Heath, Bookoccino is filled with light, air and imagination. The store carries + titles - from classics to current affairs, cookbooks, art to a magical children’s selection. As part of our commitment to the power of storytelling we are proud to sponsor the 2025 Walkley Book Award - a prize at the pinnacle of Australian journalism and longform non-fiction writing. Our events program has become legendary, welcoming literary greats, journalists, philosophers, artists, designers and public figures - including Geraldine Brooks, Richard Fidler, Viet Thanh Nguyen, Julia Baird, Marian Wilkinson, Leigh Sales, Nick Bryant, Samantha Power, Philippe Sands.
