BRIDEA MEDICAL was founded in 2011 and in that year launched the ORCHID SPEC in Europe. The ORCHID SPEC is the first innovative medical device with more to follow. We aim to provide optimized or new medical devices which are balanced and optimized for the requirements; Doctor Usability, Patient friendliness, Ergonomics, Environmental impact, and Hospital Cost-effectiveness. Often this means transitioning to disposable devices. Studies have shown that the running costs, risk of sterilization, and environmental impact for hospitals are considerably higher with reusables. Disposables manufactured using modern manufacturing technology and BIO plastics allow for the development of disposable devices that are truly "innovative medical devices." The ORCHID SPEC is "The New Speculum" for gynecological use. Bob Roeloffs developed it in collaboration with 8 Dutch hospitals. To date (April 2019), approximately 93% of Dutch hospitals have started using our ORCHID SPEC. The Orchid Spec has been awarded the REDDOT Design Award, winner in 2013 and 2016.
