Brotman Law is the tax law firm built for businesses, their officers, and their owners. We believe that people perform at their very best when free from the burdens of their tax problems. We provide services to our clients in three main areas: 1) Tax Controversies - We defend clients in audits (income, payroll, sales and use), help those who owe more money to the government than they can pay, and assist clients with various California and Federal tax controversies at all stages. Our focus is on the administrative resolution of tax issues, when possible, vs. judicial avenues, which are often cost and time prohibitive for clients. 2) Compliance - We frequently consult with domestic and international businesses, both inside and outside of California, on issues related to their operations within California, nexus/situs of income issues, and other issues that may be potentially impacting operations or threaten the organization in some way. We also deal with high net worth individuals and those who have presence in multiple states on residency issues and other issues related to apportionment of income in multiple states. Finally, we provide tax guidance on mergers and acquisitions as well as transactional/family issues. 3) Optimization - We examine the relationship between the business and its ownership to provide maximum benefit to both parties based on the personal, professional, and financial objectives in order to minimize taxes and to optimize wealth and asset accumulation. We plan and provide guidance during growth stages, exit stages, and everything in the middle.
