BUP, a spin-off of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), is an innovation-driven company that combines solid research expertise, cutting-edge technologies and strong software engineering skills to provide advanced products and consulting services in the areas of machine learning, knowledge representation and extraction, natural language understanding, data management and Semantic Web technologies. Founded in 2016 by a multifaceted group of researchers from CNR to transform the results of years of research into innovative solutions for the market, BUP takes a customer-focused approach to provide tailored software products and services both on premise and in the cloud. BUP’s solutions leverage Semantic Web technologies and machine learning techniques for natural language and text processing, from simple entity recognition, to document and intent classification, to sentiment analysis, up to the production of knowledge graphs also from unstructured text. Through its consulting services, BUP helps its customers to address the challenges of semantic interoperability, also through ontology design and engineering and the production of (linked) open data. Its products and services have already been successfully adopted in various contexts, from the standardisation and automation of document management processes and knowledge representation in the public sector, to the improvement of customer experience with semantic engines for chatbots, and support for online programmatic advertising.
