We had no alternative but to close our doors, but we know Moto is so much more than a cafe… it’s a community. In 2013 Mr. & Mrs. Moto realized a dream. For Mr. Moto it was all things Moto, preferably vintage. For Mrs. Moto it was exquisite coffee, food & wine, wherever possible local. What we unwittingly created however, is so much more. Moto quickly became an iconic Melbourne venue where everyone was welcomed and quickly become part of our community. We shouted loudly about fair wages and the importance of nurturing our young people to be confident business leaders of the future. Running an ethical business is challenging especially so in the hospitality sector. When hit with large scale business disruption due to government infrastructure programs, it was the final blow, and we had no alternative but to close our doors. But we knew that Moto was so much more than a cafe. It is an inclusive and diverse community of people who are brought together through the search for good food, good coffee, a drink or two, and a desire to make a difference by supporting small, ethical business.
