Cairopolitan is a design concept store and an art gallery based in the heart of Cairo in Garden City, driven by the belief that it’s not only our pharaonic history that embodies the spirit of Egypt but rather the practical details of our contemporary life in Cairo that has become home to all those subcultures along the years. Cairopolitan is an idea that finds its origins in the Egyptian urban life and evolves from the spirit of the city’s features, most of which have already vanished. The idea of Cairopolitan is to document our day-to-day life experience and Cairo’s features with a series of contemporary unordinary products, resembling what we see, live, and experience these days. This allows us to examine Cairo’s form and style today through products that are familiar not only to people who recognize Cairo well but also may present that familiarity to first-timers in Cairo as well! Each and every product has its own origin and takes you to another time or place you have been through before! Cairopolitan promotes Egyptian identity with objects that don’t need words to be understood. By shedding some light onto these objects, It opens your eyes to the details of the street. The line is affordable and while its creators hope to target Egyptians and become a trademark that Egyptians identify with, Cairopolitan also provides a humorous and sophisticated alternative to the pharaonic trinkets and scarves that are the only souvenirs available for foreign visitors to take home. Accordingly, an open concept has been set up - the range, like Cairo, will be constantly in flux.
