We have pioneered a new smart engine valvetrain concept called iVT (Intelligent Valve Technology, which replaces the traditional camshaft with a set of digitised electric actuators, slashing CO2 emissions by up to 20 percent and improving fuel consumption by a similar amount. Bridging the gap between petrol and diesel, iVT has the potential to reduce other types of harmful emissions such as NOx and can also improve power, torque and overall driveability. Under development over the last seven years, Camcon Automotive’s iVT system has completed more than hours on a test bench and a demonstrator vehicle has been built. Jaguar Land Rover has been an R&D partner throughout the project and the iVT system has been fitted to one of the firm’s most advanced Ingenium petrol engines. With upcoming stricter emissions regulations in the short term, iVT has huge potential. Looking further ahead, it is becoming increasingly clear that petrol engines, will still have a major role to play in electrified, hybrid powertrains and for those applications, a smaller, more efficient, more controllable engine is a must. Dramatically reducing emissions and improving drivability, iVT is designed for manufacture and affordability. Camcon Automotive also makes and sells iVT systems compatible with all gasoline single cylinder combustion development engines, enabling on-the-fly cam changes, and innovative combustion strategies - significantly reducing development cycle time and cost. Single Cylinder iVT (SCI) is a generic design of iVT specially developed to enable the flexibility of iVT o be used in combustion development.
