Before setting up Cantium Contracts in 1987, founder Simon Brown worked as an interior designer. After obtaining a diploma, his first job was in the family contract furniture manufacturing business. Simon then joined the Ministry of Works as a specifier, giving him a useful understanding of state procurement. His next move was to the furniture design consultancy of the late Harry Tuberville-Smith, an acknowledged expert in design for the English country house and traditional London club scene. In 1987 Simon returned to his native Kent and founded Cantium Contracts in Canterbury. Past projects have included a Sussex nursing home run by nuns and London gentleman's clubs.
