Duncan Bolam, Career Dovetail & The Purpose Triangles: Duncan has consulted and coached since 1996 in the fields of career development, human capital consulting, employability, change management, outplacement consulting, talent management and employee engagement. The common strand which connect each of these facets is people and organisations fulfilling their potential. Although Duncan prides himself on the breadth and depth of this work up and down and across industrial sectors and professional disciplines, working with people from all walks of life in multinational, public sector and SME type organisation, he has built a particular interest in technology, media, telcoms and digital industry. And the many occupations that have evolved and continue to evolve in this dynamic field. His Number One specialism is organisational and occupational ‘fit-ness’. When I say ‘fit-ness’, I refer to the notion of ‘People Plans’ underpinning the Business Plan and being key to generating value across every department in every organisation. Because so few leaders or hirers possess the tangible understanding of how their talent pool enables the fulfilment of their business strategy and goals. Hirers use such arbitrary measures to evaluate fit between candidate and role. Frequently hiring the bad fit and not the value-creation fit. The flip-side of this ‘fit’ equation is that I help individuals decode their occupational DNA in such a way that instils power, conviction and resilience. Not only meaning that 90% of workers are in the wrong job or not at all engaged by their work. But, equally worrying, is workers don’t recognise their career attributes.
