Carolina Jonsson Studio

Carolina Jonsson (born 1975 in Lidköping, Sweden) is a contemporary visual artist and filmmaker who lives and works in Lundsbrunn. She has a MFA degree from the Art Academy in Trondheim (Norway) and Valand School of Art (Sweden). She primarily works with video and photography, but her art can also be seen as painting in an expanded field. Her works have similarities with large portraits or landscape paintings, but there is often some form of displacement of movement or abstraction going on as well. This makes the references to paintings at the same time elusive and obvious, creating a visuality between reality and something else that is recognizable, and also foreign. For over ten years, Carolina Jonsson has collected working material in an archive called Ecolonia. The archive contains essentials, observations and sensations from nature and life itself. Carolina Jonsson processes and abstracts this material with various digital editing techniques in a process that alternate between intuitive and planned actions, focusing on slightly altered repetitive patterns, movement and small changes developed over a long period of time. Jonsson has participated in international art exhibitions and filmfestivals such as Image Forum Festival (2006), Impact festival (2005),/sin:/ festival for video art and performance (2019) Los Angeles Centre for Digital Art (2018), Queensland Center for Photography (2013). Jonsson has made several commissions for public spaces, video art commissioned by regions and municipalities in the Nordic countries including Danderyd hospital (2019) and Sahlgrenska University hospital (2016). Her work is held in the collections of Public Art Agency Sweden, KORO (Norway), The Museum of Art in Skövde (Sweden), Region Stockholm (Sweden) among others.
