Cathedral Basilica Foundation

The Basilica Heritage Foundation has worked tirelessly to acquire, protect and preserve the Basilica in St. John’s. Thanks to support from the community and our team’s dedication, the Basilica remains. And critically important in saving it, we were able to contribute to the compensation paid to survivors of abuse. The Foundation and its Board of Directors continue to work diligently moving forward with the restoration and preservation of the Basilica and create a future for this architectural and historic centrepiece of the community. The Basilica will always be a special place where people can celebrate their faith and spirituality. Looking forward, our goal is to help the Basilica become an exceptional space for the broader community. We must preserve, share and make known the incredible history, the powerful stories and beautiful artwork and architecture that make the Basilica an exceptional place of international significance. We are forever finding new artifacts and learning amazing stories that reflect how this community has always come together over the centuries. Like European cathedrals sought by visitors the world over, our own Basilica offers visitors an exceptional experience, a place in which to marvel at magnificence. As we plan the Basilica’s future and work with you, our stakeholders, partners and donors, are very excited for what is to come. Ongoing restoration and conservation activities will be integral to maintaining the Basilica and to creating more opportunities to share it with the local and global community.
