Chalk Wovens

Chalk Wovens was founded by Kerry Stokes and Richard Bush in 2013. The company is proud to showcase its top quality modern 100% Merino Lambswool woven products, designed and made in the UK. Chalk is renowned for its luxurious fabrics with striking complex double-cloth designs and complimentary colourways. Kerry, the woven textiles designer at Chalk, has had a long and interesting career working for companies from Japan to New York to Europe, designing men’s shirtings, airline fabrics, wall coverings and upholstery fabrics, to name but a few. She has also been a visiting tutor at Central St. Martin’s and Brighton University for many years. Richard, who studied Ceramics at Farnham, where the couple met, has owned an interiors business in Brighton and has worked closely with high-profile clients. He has also represented weave designers in New York and Europe. Kerry and Richard decided to draw on their design and business expertise and set up ‘Chalk’. Today, Kerry's expertise is integral to all product development. All designs are created and developed by sampling on a 16-shaft hand dobby loom, requiring an in-depth understanding of the construction and behaviour of the final product. The textile ideas are then developed into production with a specialist mill - Melin Teifi - in Wales. Chalk, although relatively new to the market, already has customers and stockists around the world, and has received design awards including 'Best New Product 2013' at Home and Gift - Harrogate.
