Challenge Discovery Projects

Challenge Discovery Projects (CDP) promotes social and emotional wellness for youth and families through school-based and community programs that prevent and address issues related to behavioral health, substance use, bullying, and trauma. For over four decades, CDP’s commitment to serving youth in Greater Richmond has remained steadfast. CDP operates a behavioral health and substance use outpatient clinic on-site and at satellite locations throughout the East End of Richmond. As a safety-net, cost-free mental health provider, CDP fosters community wellness by implementing strategies proven effective by the Centers for Disease Control. CDP’s licensed and license-eligible counselors provide tailored therapeutic services to youth who have experienced trauma, violence, anxiety, depression, and other challenges. CDP also provides Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs, which are led in classrooms and after school. Through engaging, evidence-based SEL activities led by trauma-informed counselors, youth develop competencies in self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, responsible decision-making, and relationship skills. Together with a robust network of community partners, CDP eliminates barriers to mental health care and emotional enrichment programming. We are dedicated to ensuring inclusivity by offering equitable access to services.
