We helped repeal an excise tax on fuel that unfairly impacted one transportation mode. One of our functions was to create a letter-writing campaign for employees, including identifying their federal representatives via database work. We worked on state tax issues impacting interstate commerce. An ongoing invasive species issue pits Great Lakes against inland rivers interests. We employed stakeholder and issue analysis survey techniques to identify positions, influences and likely outcomes on marine transportation policy. The data was processed using cutting-edge game theory techniques to identify leverage points for our client. Post 9/11, marine terminal security costs have increased beyond the rate of inflation even for facilities that are low risk. We surveyed operators, generated reports and worked the results in DC in the legislature and administration. This was trade association work. We worked exhaustively on EPA Clean Water Act permitting for marine vessels. We’ve also done Corps water structure permitting for an ethanol plant and FEMA work on impacts of levee decertification on chemical plants. Our Strategic Education Frameworks© help the public and policy-makers understand business issues. One Framework, for a freight mode, is the premier public outreach effort of the industry. We create Frameworks to support policy positions. We do the corporate communications, PR, public speaking, media relations, and new media to support our client's positions.
