Chantal Powell Art

Chantal Powell lives and works in Southampton, Hampshire. Her doctorate in social psychology is reflected in her work’s exploration of the universal emotions that connect us as human beings, in particular our emotional response to beauty and melancholy. She has exhibited throughout the UK, in France and at the Venice Biennale. Chantal Powell explores and elevates the relationship between found objects and our memories, desires and dreams. Powell pays particular attention to the ways in which time changes objects. She considers the contradiction that all things are constantly deteriorating and yet at the same time undergoing a process of enrichment by the stories and physical imprint that the environment and our lives places upon them. Her work is predominantly object and installation based, weaving the real with the imagined to create narrative and works that are emotionally charged. Employing an aesthetic that engages us as a form of visual poetry she crafts work that invites intimacy and personal involvement.
