Chatting To Wellness

Chatting to Wellness connects youth and seniors to sit and chat. Our goal is to combat loneliness and isolation in retirement homes and to ultimately improve the mental health of seniors. Many seniors in retirement homes lack company and companionship, whether it be due to lack of visits from family and friends, or engagement with other residents and staff. This isolation and lonliness can cause depression and anxiety in any senior. Our trained Chatters engage seniors in meaningful conversation about their lives and feelings, providing them an outlet to express their emotions and thoughts that might otherwise have been repressed and unacknowledged. This keeps seniors mentally active and engaged, as well as drastically improves their mood and feelings. At the same time, Chatting to Wellness puts great effort in empowering our youth by mentoring, connecting, and providing leadership opportunities for them. Our university (and older) volunteers will mentor, guide, and support their high school peers about education, careers, etc. We also provide management opportunities for youth to demonstrate and develop their leadership abilities through managing other volunteers and regular operations.
