Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer among women worldwide—and in many African communities, it’s often detected too late. In 2018 alone, Cameroon recorded over 1,400 deaths from breast cancer, with most cases diagnosed at advanced stages. This is often due to low awareness, cultural stigma, cost barriers, and limited access to early screening tools. At Check Me, we are transforming this reality. We're building a comprehensive digital health platform—accessible on both mobile and web—that empowers women with the knowledge and tools to take control of their breast health. Through menstrual cycle tracking, monthly self-check reminders, and personalized health insights, we promote early detection and prevention. At the heart of our platform is Nia, our warm, culturally sensitive AI health assistant, designed to support women like a caring sister. Nia educates, listens, and guides users through their health journey with compassion and care—helping break down stigma and fear around breast health. And we’re going further. We are currently developing a low-cost, AI-enhanced portable ultrasound device to bring affordable breast cancer screening to underserved clinics and remote communities—especially where mammography is out of reach.
