Chen Ping

It is my ambition to create an art which’s style can not be clearly identified while has included all elements of art. In my opinion, my work is neither pure abstract nor pure expressive, it is also conceptual and realistic, it has come across the essence of Western figurative and pictorial structures, and the spirit of Eastern space and mark making. It is a complex inclusive language - through the depiction of specific human structures melting in vast space, I try to generalise the subject of human struggle. The freedom of using empty space in composition is derived from Chinese Taoist philosophy and traditional ink painting. This allows me to freely place partial human structures on empty canvas. This has visualised tension between mankind and their environment.
