Chesapeake Conservation And Climate Corps

The Chesapeake Conservation and Climate Corps, administered by the Chesapeake Bay Trust, places young adults (ages 18-25) with nonprofit organizations or government agencies to serve full-time in the environmental field for a one-year term of paid service. The Corps provides young professionals with experience, leadership and professional development training, mentorship, and a support network with other young environmentalists. Positions offered by host organizations are in the fields of environmental restoration, community engagement, environmental education, climate change, sustainable agriculture, energy conservation, and forestry. The Corps was spearheaded by Maryland Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller as a way to support and connect the health of the environment with workforce development. Thanks to Senate President Miller, a series of other senators, and many other supporters the Chesapeake Conservation and Climate Corps was passed through Maryland legislation and signed by the governor in 2010. The inaugural class included 16 placements across Maryland. Since then, and with the help of the Maryland Climate Solutions Now Act of 2022, the Corps has grown to 50-55 placements across the Chesapeake Bay watershed with a rich variety of offerings to support the growth and professional advancement of young adults entering the environmental field while at the same time protecting and restoring the health of our local environment and the communities who live in it. The Corps is supported by the State of Maryland, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and BGE an Exelon Company, and is a proud member of The Corps Network.
