Our Mission: CHETNA recognizes the unique challenges that South Asian victims of domestic violence face, and provides culture-specific services to empower and support the journey from victim to survivor. CHETNA aims to prevent violence through advocacy, education, and outreach. Our Vision: Preventing domestic violence and helping create safer homes. Our Values: Compassion Harmony & Healing Education & Empowerment Trust Nurturing Awareness & Advocacy CHETNA (Sanskrit for Consciousness, Feeling) is a grass-roots non-profit organization incorporated in 2005 by a small group of volunteers. CHETNA first began offering confidential and compassionate support to individuals who were at risk for further abuse or neglect through our Helpline and Peer Support/Advocacy services. Board members and volunteers provided information, referrals, interpretation/translation, meals, clothing, court accompaniment, and emotional support to victims to assist them in exploring their options and navigating through the system.
