Chicago Tutoring Connection

Our mission is to help economically disadvantaged students succeed in high school and move on to college or a career. Established in 1992, Chicago Tutoring Connection, formerly Cabrini Connections, does this by pairing the students with an adult tutor who supports their academic achievement and provides guidance in life skills. Since 1992, we have operated a tutoring and mentoring program in Chicago to help economically disadvantaged 7th-12th grade students succeed in school and life. The students meet one-on-one with their adult volunteer tutor/mentors once a week during the school year. The volunteers help them with their school work and their lives. The program is located in the Jesse White Community Center and Field House at 412 West Chicago Avenue in the River North neighborhood. We have been recognized as the Number 1 tutor/mentor program by the City of Chicago's Department of Family and Support Services. History The organization was founded in 1992 by Daniel Bassill and a few others who had been volunteers with the Montgomery Ward/Cabrini Green Tutoring Program. That program primarily served 2nd-6th grade students. Mr. Bassill saw the need to continue to support the students, primarily from the Cabrini Green neighborhood, through high school. At that time, he also established the Tutor/Mentor Connection to collaborate with and support other tutoring and mentoring programs around Chicago. That program separated from Cabrini Connections in 2011. Since 1992, over 700 students and 800 tutors have participated in the tutoring program for at least one year. Over 90% of program graduates have entered college, the military or a post-graduate training program.
