Christophe Launay

Originally from France, photographer Christophe Launay is currently living and working in Australia. Artistically, Launay is driven by his passions, and his current portfolio reflects an ability to capture breathtaking images from extreme ocean yacht racing, to serene and beautiful underwater compositions. Born in New Caledonia in the Pacific, Launay 's photographic career has been driven by his love of the ocean, adventure and yachting, coupled with naturally creative talent. As a yachtsman, Launay has sailed around the globe; from classic regattas in the south of France to super yacht circumnavigations and the ill-fated Sydney to Hobart race in 1998. He is dedicated to capturing the adrenalin and action of offshore racing and is capable of taking pictures in even the most challenging conditions from on board, helicopter and chase boat. Launay trained in photography in Los Angeles and furthered his creative studies in Paris where he worked with Mondino and the critically acclaimed design agency, Janvier. He is currently based in Sydney, where he combines his work as a freelance photographer with racing on performance yachts. Launay has held several exhibitions in Sydney; worked on international advertising campaigns and frequently contributes images to the national and international press as well as yachting trades. His picture of a 49er racing towards the Sydney Opera House was selected as the official image for the Olympic Games Yachting promotion. He is represented by the following agencies, which distribute his pictures worldwide and locally to daily, weekly, monthly magazines and advertising agencies.
