Chureca Chic

We are a social enterprise, and the trading trading arm of the Earth Education Project, a UK charity working in Nicaragua since 2009. CHURECA CHIC is a fashion label creating handmade high quality designer accessories based on waste materials. The collections are inspired by the flora and fauna of Nicaragua, its volcanoes and the entrepreneurial spirit of women whose lives are changed through the purchase of the products. In Nicaragua, we have fast become a household name; our story and products have gone to London, New York, Panama and beyond. In February 2017 we launched our website and online sales from Nicaragua at Earth Education Project provides job skill training programmes for women living in impoverished areas of the capital city, Managua, primarily La Chureca, a landfill site. The programme is a year long course in which women enrol and receive a scholarship to study. The course is aimed at women between 15 - 50, who have not finished school and have not been able to access the labour market. Earth Education Project teaches an all encompassing course from education to psychological development and artisan training to household management. Upon graduating the programme the women go into places of employment found through corporate partners of the Charity. In 2015 CHURECA CHIC was awarded the national prize by the Association of Producers and Exporters of Nicaragua for our social impact. In 2016 CHURECA CHIC was awarded for our social impact, our innovative product and for our environmental sustainability. We, CHURECA CHIC, and Earth Education Project are committed to sustainability. This is why the charity is structured around a commercial product and we are working towards self sustainability through the sales of the CHURECA CHIC products.
