Citygate is a public sector consultancy dedicated to “The Business of Better Government.” Through our “Virtual City Hall” model, we provide management consulting to the full array of local government functions, with particular emphasis on fire protection, law enforcement, community development, public works, animal services, and human resources. Citygate has conducted over 500 consulting engagements for over 250 government agencies in the West, providing us with a nuanced understanding of the financing and delivery of government services. Citygate is Cause-Driven, not Profit-Driven. Our firm is comprised of senior public sector executives who long ago dedicated themselves to the public service. That continues to be the firm’s motivation. We have found that when we dedicate ourselves to the qualitative excellence of client service, the finances of the business take care of themselves, and when we focus too much on the business’ finances, quality suffers. So what then would be the threshold of testing whether we have set our sights primarily on qualitative rather than quantitative factors? When we put the interests of our clients above our own business interests. It sounds simple, yet it is an entirely unconventional strategy in the present environment of free market enterprise. Our aspiration is that character is the leading distinguishing aspect of Citygate. Character defines who we are, our attitudes, how we interact with others, and how we deliver service. We are reminded daily that quantitative factors (such as the number of projects sold and monthly revenues) are the by-product of the business rather than the focus and motivation. We will continue to be cause-driven rather than profit-driven, not only because it satisfies our idealism about continually improving the public sector, but because it is a proven method of business.
