Coconut Palm Software is a boutique software consultancy specializing in solutions utilizing functional programming, particularly in Clojure. Dave Orme (the Head Coconut) is currently the sole proprietor. Why functional programming? Functional programming (FP) is the discipline of creating software using mathematically pure functions-that is, functions whose outputs depend only on their parameters. This creates the following benefits:* FP programs tend to scale better because they are automatically concurrency-safe. In an age where every cell phone has at least two CPUs, it makes sense to choose a technology that can trivially take advantage of today's compute power, whether in your pocket or in the cloud.* FP programs are much easier to test. And teams that thoroughly test their code write code that you know will perform correctly when it enters production much more of the time. Why Clojure/Clojurescript?* Clojurescript is Javascript with a cleaner syntax and a battle-tested functional programming library. Experienced Javascript programmers who already use functional programming techniques already know most of Clojurescript (even if they don't realize it yet).* Clojure and Clojurescript are implementations of the Lisp language and Lisp is a safe investment. Lisp is the second oldest computer language and the oldest with a growing number of programmers. This means that the hard language and library problems are already solved. The language doesn't change. Clojure and Clojurescript programs written years ago compile and run as well today as when they were first written.(This is not true of Scala where code written five years ago may not even compile-much less run-today.)
