A humbling reminder of a dirt road, in the midst of one of the wealthiest counties in the country. All of the sacrifices my parents made to provide my brothers and I with opportunity. Taking pride in a job well done and putting forth the commitment to see it through to the end. Learning to pass it on to the stranger next to you and always going the extra mile to help someone. These are the defining characteristics of Colby Lane, the street that I grew up on after my family moved from Waterford, MI and into Bloomfield Township, MI in 1993. As families changed and moved out, the lots began to change as well – from quaint ranch homes to million dollar mansions. However the street remained unpaved. Even today with only a handful of the original homes remaining, Colby Lane remains a dirt road. To me it’s a reminder every time I go home to be thankful, to remember the commitment and hard work, and to be as generous as dedicated to those around me. Life is about more than climbing a ladder or making a big paycheck. It’s about finding your niche and pouring everything you have into it, in order to leave the world a little bit better place. For me that’s leveraging technology to give people a chance that they didn’t have before.
