College Planning Untangled

Many students miss a vital step when planning for college. WHY they want to go to college, understanding who they are as a person, and what career path will make them happy adults. What I noticed when my boys went from high school to college is HS counselors and college consultants, do a great job of explaining the boxes to check to get the kids IN to college. However, those tactical steps are not where college planning should start. In fact, the standard process bypasses a crucial step. College planning actually starts with your child exploring WHY they want to go to college. This starts with them understanding who they are as a person and what career path will make them happy adults. If they start here, the students then choose a more aligned major, have more focus and confidence, and appreciation for their college education. And as a result, do better, enjoy their time more, and have a more purposeful experience! We help students create a career path based on their interests and one that takes advantage of their talents so they can go to college with confidence. Then we let college do what it’s supposed to do, expose them to more targeted opportunities to help them work towards their first big kid job.
