Communication Rescue Services

When people cannot express their medical concerns, it can have considerable implications for healthcare quality. The Guided Communication: Medical Concern app bridges the communication gap between healthcare providers and patients with communication difficulties. At Communication Rescue Services, our mission is to empower patients to regain their voice and autonomy by supporting their communication needs. Guided Communication: Medical Concerns makes assessing medical concerns in people with aphasia easier and more accurate. Jointly developed by a speech language pathologist and a physician who work regularly with brain injury, stroke, and other diagnoses that often result in communication difficulties, it combines evidence-based aphasia communication techniques with comprehensive medical assessment questions. These questions address common and complex medical issues, and can help the healthcare provider to identify concerns that were otherwise too difficult to communicate. The app is user-friendly across the board for all users, from healthcare providers to family. Through our combined experience, we recognized a need to support our fellow healthcare providers and our patients in communicating clearly regarding medical concerns. Research shows healthcare providers have a strong desire to communicate with these patients, but are frequently frustrated by the limitations of verbal communication and simple communication boards. Together we set off on a path to bridge this gap, and Communication Rescue Services, and our first app "Medical Concerns: Guided Communication" were created.
