Community Learning International

Mission Statement:"Community Learning International creates opportunities for disadvantaged communities, families and individuals in Laos to work to improve their lives" We strongly believe that education, formal and non-formal is key to long term development, including poverty reduction, and this is where most of our resources are directed. Our projects fit into 3 Construction- We build: Schools; learning centres; dormitories; sanitation facilities; and clean water Learning- Lao Children's Library Boats: We currently operate 2 Library Boats (with over books in each) which serve and support schools in over 100 riverside villages that have little or no road access. Our 'book boats' as they are known locally also circulate around 100 portable libraries of 100 books each, as well as conducting life skills classes- Learning Centres: CLI operates 6 Learning Centres in rural districts in Laos (the majority). Laos needs many more (to compare: Vietnam has more than Learning Centres are a proven way to significantly improve a child's opportunity in life. Each learning centre has its own library, and staff who provide Lao and English language classes, life skills classes, learning based activities; cultural preservation through music, dancing and puppet shows; and not to mention plain old fun and Income Generation: CLI has also developed two successful family income projects- Women's Weaving Project - Village Coffee Growing
