Our chief aim is to support Whalley Range community cohesion, integration and social inclusion. CSG’s purpose is to promote respectful, cooperative and tolerant interaction. We promote opportunities for active participation and interaction with activities beneficial to physical and mental health and wellbeing. We empower people to increase their motivation, skills, employability and quality of life. This helps people develop self-esteem and realise their potential. Our vision is for young people to be confident and resilient with access to sports and educational facilities to develop life skills so they can contribute as responsible individuals to a peaceful and co-operative community. CSG was established by Whalley Range residents wanting to engage all sections of the community, including ‘hard-to-reach’ young people. We appreciate difference and recognise that young people are part of the solution, not the problem. We consult individuals and groups when designing projects and conduct user-perspective questionnaires. CSG wants young people to have the opportunity to be heard and to be involved in the process in order to provide their peers with projects that would interest them and allow them more responsibility and engagement. YSG’s provision is driven by what local young people say they want, known external circumstances and an expert understanding of the needs of local young people and the impact on the community. We strive to provide young people from mixed cultural and ethnic backgrounds a safe environment to engage in structured, healthy, interactive activities and opportunities to voice their opinions and socialise. We offer diversionary activities for children vulnerable or at risk of becoming involved in crime and anti-social behaviour and help find peaceful and fruitful resolutions. We use educational, social, creative and sports activities to help people build resilience and choose positive, constructive lifestyles. We support people to connect.
