ConVisión 20/20 is a for-profit social enterprise providing high quality low cost eye care services to middle and low income populations of northern Mexico and US border towns by addressing the leading causes of visual impairment and blindness. ConVisión uses a “hub and spoke” model. “Hubs” are full service clinics and “spokes” are smaller diagnostic centers that examine patients, sell glasses and diagnose patients, to be scheduled for surgery in the clinics as required. Transportation and lodging will be provided as needed. ConVisión will offer thorough counseling services to patients to help them understand diagnoses and the different surgical procedures available. ConVisión opened its first clinic in Ciudad Juarez in January 2018 and aspires to open 5-10 clinics in the next 10 years. The clinics will offer surgery/treatment for: cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, certain retina problems and pterygium. Revenue will be generated from optical services (prescription glasses), eye exams/consultations, surgeries/procedures and pharmacy. The founding doctor and investor, Mexican native Dr. Guillermo Amescua is a leading ophthalmologist with Bascom Palmer, the #1 eye hospital in the US. He will be in Juarez to launch the first clinic and will be continually involved using his reputation to position the clinic as a high quality facility.
