O Corecon-BA participa de um sistema integrado por mais 26 Conselhos Regionais, ligados ao Conselho Federal de Economia (Cofecon), criados nos termos do artigo 6ºda Lei nº 1.411/51, cuja redação atual foi dada pela Lei nº 6.021/74. A autarquia federal, sem fins lucrativos, é responsável por registrar, regulamentar, fiscalizar, disciplinar e orientar o exercício profissional dos Economistas que atuam na Bahia, zelando pela ética e pelo cumprimento da legislação que se refere à regulamentação da profissão. Além disso, o Corecon-BA é o principal órgão representativo da categoria no Estado da Bahia
