The Centre for Rural Development (CRD) is a non-profit, non-governmental voluntary organization operating in India. In India, more than 65% of the population resides in rural areas, and their primary occupation is agriculture. Additionally, another 5% to 8% of the population indirectly depends on the agriculture sector for their livelihoods, often as agricultural laborers. However, this critical sector faces significant challenges today, including issues such as farmer suicides due to water scarcity and low crop yields. CRD was founded by individuals with deep roots in agriculture and a strong desire to contribute to society. They recognized the urgent need to address the pressing problems in rural areas and established CRD with the overarching aim of fostering sustainable development in these regions. The organization's primary focus areas are water conservation, soil conservation, and agricultural development, all of which are interconnected and vital for the well-being of rural communities. Centre for rural development (CRD) is a non-profit organization widely recognized as a premier institution pioneering participatory Watershed Development and Climate Change Adaptation. In the 23 years of existence, CRD has reached Indian states- Telangana, touching over 0.5 million beneficiaries to date. CRD unique strength lies in its on-field experience and the systemic, participatory approach adopted in its interventions.
