My photography has become very personal to me, it allows me to look at the world around me, and see it for what it could be, as well as what it actually is. I try to find those little moments in time that we know will never come again. The play of light and dark, the detail within the shadows. All of the small details that go into a scene are the stories that I like to tell. My journey so far has seen me visit many genres, from portraiture to macro, landscape to long exposure. While I have had fun and learnt from all of these, I have not felt that they were actually the type of work that I wanted to focus on. Having said that, I am leaning towards an architectural theme, my philosophy is still the same, but while looking at the architectural aspects of the building whether they are internal or external, I will still be looking to play off the light and the dark. The architecture will be the main focus, but I add my style to the projects. I understand that within the architectural world, there seems to be little room to be expressive. When we think about some of the most iconic structures that have been built, they are the ones that have pushed the boundaries of convention, and then when photographing them, we are asked to stick to convention. To photograph front on, or to use a depth of field that will hold the entire structure in focus etc. although, like a lot of modern architecture, I like to show that you can push the boundaries and still come up with a product will showcase the structure. I have recently been drawn to the images of Adam Mork. The ability that he shows while working angles within the scene shows a degree of freedom. This affirms to me that there is a way of showcasing the architecture in an artistic way. Mike Kelley is another architectural photographer that I have followed for a little while now. Mike is a more traditional photographer, in that the final images are of the architecture. However to final images are the next level in terms of the quality of the images. He tends to uses a lot of sunset shoots and paints in the light that is needed using flash.
