CrossCheck Proofreading and Editing has been set up to reflect my interest and long time experience as a technical author, trained proofreader and editor. With the increasing dependence for spellchecking, grammar and proofreading on offline and online software solutions, there is more and more evidence in advertising, newspaper and magazine articles, and other media, that these software solutions are fallible and cannot replace the human eye, and the associated experience, to accurately check a written work prior to publication. Thus, as I slide gently into retirement from a working life at sea, I seek alternative reasons to get out of bed in the morning and be occupied. I enjoy reading a wide range of both technical and relaxing material and can think of no better way to use this enjoyment than by assisting an author or writer by providing editing and proofreading services prior to publication, helping to make sure their written work is as good as it can be. My main fields of experience, after a lifetime of offshore work, much of it as a surveyor, lie in land and hydrographic survey and associated equipment, oceanography, the maritime world, HSE, travel and history. I also enjoy fiction. I do not consider living in New Zealand any hindrance to doing work for a client elsewhere in the world. Modern communications mean I can receive material within minutes of it being sent and can start work immediately, if not otherwise committed, using either MS Word or Adobe Acrobat to annotate a manuscript/work, the client then has the option to either Accept or Reject those notations. Indeed, for clients in Europe and the eastern regions of North America, if time and other commitments allow, I can check your work as you sleep and have it back with you by the start of your next day.
