We are a non-profit news organization covering the neighborhoods of Los Angeles in a different way — through data. Los Angeles is too complex to see through one lens. That’s why we try to tell unique stories about each neighborhood through the data we collect on issues that matter, such as crime, traffic and air quality. Some residents might be enjoying safer streets, while others are contending with a crime spike. Air quality can vary from one neighborhood to the next. We want to turn those numbers into stories that citizens can use to understand what’s happening around them. We collect our data from a variety of publicly available sources, including law enforcement, transportation and environmental agencies. We want you to use it to hold local government accountable and to help people make choices about where to live, work or send their kids to school. We do this because we believe in Los Angeles and we believe this city can always do better. The data can tell us if we are making steps forward, or slipping back. We know you’re busy, so we try to be efficient and brief. We know we’re most likely to find you on your phone, so we’ve designed our journalism to meet you there.
