CTRT is dedicated to making a difference to the lives of rural poor. Yes, the lives of poor farmers can be transformed: • Poor Tanzanian farmers integrated zero grazing in their dry-land farming system • Hundreds of small farmers in Kyrgyzstan created a viable cooperative and next to making handsome profits for themselves produce the best seed potatoes of Central Asia • Due to the Albanian National Seed Potato Association the national potato production increased with 25% in 3 years • Moldova farmers took their responsibility to create a network rural NGOs which managed to break the government monopoly on cereal exports and which was the first to charge farmers for extension- and business support services. • In Kosovo a new horticultural strategy convinced the government to subsidise investments in orchards and greenhouses. Over twenty years of hands on experience has taught me that new directions can be found if solid knowledge is combined with bold creativity and courage. As this is not easily found in large organisations, I realised I can better serve my clients as an independent consultant. This is why in 2003 I created CTRT: Consultancy and Training for Rural Transformation.
