We are not a haircare line. We don’t even have a shampoo and conditioner. We don’t have different products for different hair types. We don’t have a wall of SKUs in color-differentiated plastic bottles. All that is very comforting to people; it’s what normal, good companies do. CULT+KING is not normal. But we are very, very good. Some people love us. They feel a natural affinity. They get it. They want to explore. They are comfortable with the other, with the different and new, outside the sanitized world of traditional beauty. They are ready for more than just cheese on a cracker. Some people hate us. They want to correct us. Lecture us. As if we never heard of Horst Rechelbacher. As if we are children who may someday emerge as productive adults with the right discipline and instruction. As if the only way to explain their own lack of understanding us is to list all the things we’re doing wrong. Well we're doing lots of things "wrong" because it's the right thing to do. If we please everyone, we will thrill no one. And we won't make change. We are here to serve you, your scalp, your skin, your follicles, to affect the average daily temperature during your children’s lifetime. We’re here so you don’t argue with your lover because of the headache you got breathing chemicals all day. We’re here to remind you what it’s like to be treated with abundance and generosity. We’re here to keep small indie business in business. We will resist the status quo. But mostly we'll just keep doing our thing. Creating extraordinary best-in-class products. Serving you. Loving you.
