The current approach to cybersecurity isn't sustainable, as evidenced by the increasing gap between the global cost of cyber crime (trillions) and the global size of cyber budgets (billions). Cyber INsecurity isn't inevitable. Cybersecuirity investments must shift back to the basics - get a detailed understanding of exactly what is in your environment, understand the dependencies within your environment, harden your environment and minimize exceptions taken (take exceptions only when the secure configurations cannot be reasonably reconciled with business processes), establish clear, robust change/patch management processes. Then, investments in detection and response tools will deliver greater value and outcomes.
