Daines Atelier design and sew one-off garments from remnant vintage textiles, for anyone who is conscious of the negative impact of the fashion industry and wants to represent their individuality. By creating silhouettes that limit waste from their production process and are an oversized fit malleable to a variety of body types. Sourcing out fabrics locally and saving them from their imminent death at the landfill. This opens up a fresh perspective on the transparency of the fashion industry and to represent how clothing can be an extension of your personality, not just an aesthetic. Wanting to be able to wear clothing that was comfortable regardless of where you are. To be a woman who doesn’t have an over sexualised body and to know the entire production of the clothing I was wearing. Knowing that over 205 tonnes of textile is thrown away each year, we already have the resources around us to fuel the fashion industry without creating something new. Shifting the perspective of individuals when it comes to how they invest into fashion and wear it. Creating clothing that is kind to the world and not beige, to open minded individuals- the next generation who will implement how the fashion industry will be run.Showing us how fashion can be transparent, ethical, sustainable and individual. We already have everything we need to make a difference to the planet in front of us, why do we always have to search for the next big thing or invention? Tradition will save us. The industry is missing clothing that has some positivity to the future, whether it be through our freedom of expression or our right to have transparency on where something has come from and where it has been made. With peace of mind that we started the ball rolling by opening a conversation surrounding our clothing and inspired the next generation of designers to design with their surroundings intact. That is how we will know we have succeeded in our mission.
