DMC is a generous and essential dance company with new energy and great momentum.” -Wesley Enoch AM Dance Makers Collective (DMC), based on Dharug country (Western Sydney), is the only collective-led dance company in Australia. With a mission to build dance communities, DMC brings people together by working with, and between, dance theatre, contemporary dance and social dance. DMC connects and moves people. We destigmatise dance and inspire people to embrace it for what it is: intrinsic, transformative and deeply relatable. Established in 2012, DMC has presented dozens of dance productions, in theatres, town halls, galleries, parks, street corners, balconies, on YouTube and Instagram, in cities and regional towns in almost every Australian state and territory. DMC, first and foremost, produces heartfelt dance works that reflect the diverse, personal experiences of Australians. We are also deeply committed to the health of the independent dance sector, particularly in NSW. We are the only professional contemporary dance company in greater Sydney with its own dedicated space, LOT7. DMC commissions, contracts and employs around 100 artists annually, mostly dance makers but also musicians, composers, visual artists and others, to make and perform work for audiences across Australia, develop new projects, and/or provide targeted skills development and training to emerging and professional artists. DMC is both a producer and a service organisation, and we do both exceptionally well. We have become a beacon for opportunity, safety and support for dancers. Our dedicated core Artistic Directorate of 11 dance makers co-design and deliver projects and programs in response to the needs of artists and the wider community. It is our unique democratic model, expansive network, openness, and commitment to shared practice that sets us apart.
