Due to desperation, after my university education, I stumbled into the snail farming business. The scarcity of snails because of continues land degradation compounded with continues demand for snail products at our local and international markets presented an opportunity for me to get into the business. I started with 50 pieces of breeding stock of snails, with an old waste refrigerator and a waste mosquito net because I could not afford a package from other farmers. I also found out that about 30% of the crops we grow go to waste including eggshells and old refrigerators, which serve as a special habitat for mosquitoes leading to death caused by malaria. Chlorofluorocarbons from old refrigerators are very harmful to the ozone layer. There are also several individuals who have been advised not to eat red meat because of diagnosed health problems. These people need an affordable supplement to substitute for red meat. Demasko Farms offers a substitute for meat for those who should not eat red meat as well as those who cannot afford it. Snails possess anti-cancer properties as well as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits which boost the immune system. Demasko farms recycles old waste refrigerators used as snail pens. We are into the sales of live snails, dried snails and frozen snails to individual snail consumers and export contracts. We also provide training to those interested in starting a snail farming business. We supply breeding stock and feed supplements to potential snail farmers.
